Overview & Framework Record

Assessment Domain. Narrative Resonance Assessment measures an individual's or organization's narrative intelligence across five dimensions: (1) Narrative Awareness — the degree to which one recognizes the stories operating in and around them; (2) Narrative Flexibility — the capacity to hold multiple stories and shift between narrative frames; (3) Narrative Agency — the felt capacity to author and re-author one's own story; (4) Narrative Embodiment — the degree to which stories are somatically integrated rather than merely cognitive; (5) Narrative Generosity — the capacity to hold space for others' stories without imposing one's own.

Asessment. To conduct a full assessment of the Narrative Resonance™ methodology, please ensure the following steps are covered:

  1. Evaluate Somatic Dimensions: Analyze how narratives manifest in the body, including patterns of tension, breath, posture, and movement. Identify specific narratives held within individuals, such as "I must be strong" or "I am not enough."
  1. Measure Narrative Intelligence: Assess the five dimensions of narrative intelligence:
  1. Explore the Intersection of Neuroscience and Narrative: Investigate how the brain constructs meaning through stories and the neural mechanisms that underlie narrative processing.
  1. Assess Philosophical Foundations: Reflect on the philosophical lineage from Aristotle to contemporary thinkers, focusing on how narrative identity shapes human experience.
  1. Incorporate Contemplative Insights: Utilize insights from various contemplative traditions to understand the nature of self-narrative and the potential for liberation from constraining stories.
  1. Identify Barriers and Bridges: Analyze how stories can both connect and confine individuals, exploring narrative trance and the implications for personal and organizational growth.
  1. Implement Somatic Story Mapping: Practice techniques to explore the body's relationship to both past and emerging narratives.
  1. Awareness and Reflection: Encourage participants to recognize the stories they inhabit and cultivate a narrative spaciousness that acknowledges their agency in story-making.
  1. Feedback and Iteration: Gather insights from participants to refine the assessment process and enhance the application of Narrative Resonance™.

Ensure that each step is documented thoroughly to facilitate ongoing development and integration of this methodology.

Best Practices. Here are some best practices when using the Narrative Resonance™ framework:

  1. Cultivate Narrative Awareness: Encourage individuals to recognize the stories influencing their thoughts and behaviors. This involves active listening and reflective practices to identify personal narratives.
  1. Engage Somatic Practices: Incorporate techniques such as Somatic Story Mapping to explore how stories are embodied. Pay attention to physical sensations and emotional responses that arise when discussing narratives.
  1. Foster Narrative Flexibility: Help individuals to hold multiple narratives and shift between them. This can be achieved through exercises that challenge fixed beliefs and encourage the exploration of alternative perspectives.
  1. Promote Narrative Agency: Empower individuals to author and re-author their stories. Facilitate sessions where participants can rewrite their narratives, focusing on agency and choice.
  1. Encourage Narrative Generosity: Create safe spaces for sharing stories. Cultivate an environment where individuals can listen to others without imposing their own narratives, fostering empathy and understanding.
  1. Integrate Cognitive and Somatic Work: Combine cognitive reframing with somatic release techniques to address narratives holistically. Acknowledge that both mind and body play crucial roles in the storytelling process.
  1. Utilize the Temporal Aspect: Recognize that the body holds stories from both the past and future. Encourage participants to explore emerging narratives and how they can inform their present actions.
  1. Practice Narrative Spaciousness: Teach individuals to witness their stories without becoming confined by them. This involves cultivating a sense of awareness that transcends the narrative, allowing for broader perspectives.
  1. Incorporate Feedback Loops: Regularly check in on the effects of narrative work. Encourage participants to reflect on how their stories evolve and the impact on their lived experiences.
  1. Honor Cultural and Collective Narratives: Be aware of the larger stories that influence individual and organizational identities. Integrate discussions on cultural narratives and how they shape collective experiences.

By applying these practices, individuals can deepen their understanding of their narratives and engage in transformative story work.
